LISTENING TO THE RIGHT VOICE... DESPITE THE NOISE!

“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27

What an incredible playoff season this has been for Detroit Lions fans! For decades, Lion fans have been dreaming and waiting for their football team to progress and make it into the playoffs; now that dream is finally a reality! Interestingly, the noise level of Ford Field has been a frequent topic of discussion during interviews and broadcasts, and it has truly been a tremendous reflection of the fans' excitement and enthusiasm for their beloved team!

During the first Detroit Lions playoff game on January 14th, the home crowd was so loud that they broke the decibel record at Ford Field! My son was blessed to be one of the 65,000 fans in attendance; he stated that the noise level was just unbelievable during the duration of the entire game! One week later, on January 21st, the fans leveled up their noise factor and broke the record again, setting a new mark at 134.3 decibels. (To put this into perspective, 127.6 decibels is the noise of a 747 jet engine during take off!)

So how do the players hear what their quarterback, Jared Goff, is trying to tell them when they are surrounded by the intense noise of 65,000 cheering voices? They have to learn and study the plays, understand the communication protocols as well as the game plan, listen, and focus on his voice!

At St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School, we believe that faith development can begin at a very early age. As a result, we place a very high value in supporting a Christian school where we can begin to lay the spiritual building blocks for children to become life-long learners and followers of Jesus.

Just as the Lions need to study the plays and understand the game plan, we believe that it is important for our students to study God’s Word and understand His plan of salvation. Just as the Lions need to understand communication protocols, we believe that it is important for our students to have opportunities where they can communicate and share their faith with others in age appropriate ways. Just as the Lions need to focus, listen, and follow Jarod Goff’s voice, we are cognizant that this world will bombard our children with countless voices, many that have the potential to be dangerous. However, at St. Matthew Lutheran School, we want to partner with parents to assist them to train our students how to hear, discern, and follow the Lord’s voice.

Please join us next Friday as we plan to "SOAR INTO THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR" with our 2024/2025 Open House, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the Christ-centered education that we can offer your child. This Kindergarten through Grade 8 Open House is designed for all currently enrolled, as well as all inquiring families. This event will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria for anyone who would like to enjoy a light pizza dinner. Classrooms will be open from 6:00 - 6:45 so that you can meet your next year’s teachers. At 6:45 p.m., everyone will meet in the gym for the grand conclusion of watching the Detroit Piston Flight Crew's exciting performance! Everyone is welcome, but please RSVP to help us ensure that we have enough food. Please check the school newsletter or call the school office.

We hope to see you there, and GO LIONS!
