“All Grit” is a popular slogan for the Detroit Lions. It conveys a story of resilience, determination, and an unyielding spirit that refuses to be extinguished. This definition could also be used for the recent Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton victims.
Today, the Detroit Lions' “Roary The Lion” visited the students of St. Matthew and taught six leadership characteristics, including learning, education, ambition, discipline, encouragement, and responsibility.
Building on the concepts of encouragement and responsibility, we concluded this exciting day with a tailgate celebration that was designed with the intention to follow the heartbeat of Jesus’ leadership and help the recent Hurricane Helene victims.
The weather was beautiful, the donuts and cider were delicious, but the absolute BEST part of this celebration was our St. Matthew family coming together to raise funds to help those facing extreme devastation. As of right now, St. Matthew Lutheran School has raised $2464.95 that will be donated to Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian organization designed with the mission to “help others in the name of Jesus”. Samaritan’s Purse already has six sites established in various Hurricane Helene disaster locations to help victims with physical and spiritual needs. They are also monitoring Hurricane Milton and planning on responding to the needs that arise from this hurricane as well.
We praise God for such a “GRRRRREAT" day, and we pray that these funds will be a blessing to those in need!
In His Love,
Mrs. Palka
