"Back to School" BMX Bike Show this Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
For the past few days, our little neighbor boy has been outside learning how to ride his bike without training wheels. However, what started as a mom/son project has evolved into a neighborhood bonding experience as we all have become invested in Drew’s success by shouting out words of encouragement, cheers, and applause.
I have to admit that his first few attempts were a little wobbly, and he was very hesitant whether he even wanted to continue. But as his mom held on to his bike and jogged along side of him, each neighbor that they passed acknowledged his efforts and shouted out words of affirmation. Eventually, you could notice a little smile emerge through the intense and stoic face as he gained more determination and confidence. By last night he was totally on his own circling the cul-de-sac. It's amazing how much power a little bit of encouragement can generate!
So how do kids go from this stage of their biking career to zooming down ramps, performing backflips, 360 spins, jumping over obstacles, etc?
God bless the parents that can let adventurous children do their thing! Did you know that:
• Bobsleighers can travel down trails at 93 mph
• Luge participants can sled down icy paths at 87 mph
• Ski jumpers can fly through the air at 59 to 65 mph
• BMX bikers can reach speeds of 35 mph coming off various ramps
And for each one of these amazing athletes, there was a courageous, encouraging mom or dad who drove them to lessons, washed their uniforms, attended their competitions, and supported them throughout their exhilarating endeavors and passions. After spending years with my face buried in my husband's arm as we watched our kids pole vault, wrestle, and play soccer, I know that I am not that courageous mom! Yet, I cling to the promise and find peace in the truth that my kids have a courageous and all powerful Heavenly Father who is always with them and always watching over them.
This Saturday, September 16th, we have the pleasure to welcome some of these daring and fearless athletes as St. Matthew Lutheran School hosts “The Freestyle Connection BMX Stunt Show”! Please join us in the back parking lot at 6:00 p.m. (For your comfort, please feel free to bring your own lawn chairs.) In addition, everyone who attends will enjoy a tasty treat from the Frios Gourmet Popsicle Truck! This is also a wonderful opportunity to meet some new friends, so we hope to see you there!
In His Love,
Mrs. Palka
