"Whatever you do for the least of these, you've done unto Me." Matthew 25:40
Are you the type of family that enjoys gardening? One frequent comment that I hear from those who have been blessed with green thumbs is that is was a very bountiful summer for zucchinis and tomatoes, making it nearly impossible to gather all of the crops!
However... can you imagine the overwhelming task to harvest 43 acres of produce for needy families? Sounds like a great time to have a "small dream and watch God bless in BIG ways"!
Last Friday, our 6th through 8th grades traveled to Forgotten Harvest to be the hands and feet of Jesus and serve low income families in the Metro Detroit area. Our seventh and eighth graders were put to work out in the fields with the task of picking corn. At the end of the day, approximately 13,000 pounds of corn was picked. In addition, our sixth graders worked in the Forgotten Harvest warehouse, repackaging fresh vegetables collected from the Farm. At the conclusion of their shift, these students packaged approximately 2,600 pounds of fresh vegetables for needy families to enjoy.
In speaking with a few participants, they expressed that despite how grueling of a task this was, they felt great joy in knowing how many times families would be blessed by their efforts.
Some endearing comments were:
- "Every meal bagged and picked is one meal showing Christ's love."
- "Each time I picked an ear of corn, I just kept thinking of the children it would feed, and that made me want to keep on picking more."
- "The corporate volunteers were impressed with the selflessness of our students."
We love because He first loved us, and it warms our hearts to see our students love and help others!
In His love,
Mrs. Palka
