As a teaching staff, we begin each school day by gathering together for devotions.
Throughout the year, every teacher takes a turn to share and reflect upon God’s word, as well lead us in prayer, because we believe that God works powerfully through prayer.

This is an extremely exciting week as the St. Matthew gym transforms into the Emerald City! As we prepare for this week's performance of The Wizard of Oz, I am reminded of an interesting perspective that a former Superintendent of Michigan Lutheran Schools shared many years ago. Once I heard his connections between the Wizard of Oz and Christian Education, it endeared this movie even more to my heart as he shared this analogy:

When my children were young, I was always fascinated regarding how often they could memorize lines and even entire scenes from various movies and then just insert and recite them during various unique situations. Furthermore, as I keep dropping into Wizard of Oz practices, I am somewhat shocked and slightly impressed at how many of the actors’ lines I can also jump in and deliver by memory!

Jack Johnson is an American singer/song writer who is known for his songs that range in the soft rock and acoustic genre. A few weeks ago, as I was getting my haircut, a Jack Johnson song played through the studio’s sound system. “I love Jack Johnson” I professed, to which my hair stylist replied, “I absolutely love Jack Johnson too! In fact, I have a great Jack Johnson story!"
